Lunchtime

Lunch times at De Havilland are a social time where children enjoy a safe and happy break with their Friends, Teachers and Learning Practitioners.

The Lunchtime experience at De Havilland is a positive one, with children spending quality time to eat and play games with their friends; this is supported and facilitated by the Senior Leadership Team, Teaching staff, Learning Practitioners and site team.

School Lunches

Our school lunches are prepared by Hertfordshire Catering Ltd (HCL) on our school premises. The Government provides funding for all 4-7 year olds to have a free school meal. School meals cost £2.80 per day from Year 3 – Year 6. Some children are eligible for free school meals. Details can be obtained from the School Office. We use the Pupil-Choice menu which allows children to choose their meal option each day. Every week, there are two “special” meal days: on Wednesdays there is the opportunity to enjoy the “Roast of the Week” and on Fridays they can enjoy a “Friday Fun Lunch”.

National Fruit and Vegetable Scheme

All our Early Years and Key Stage One children are given a piece of fruit or vegetable each day at school. This is part of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, part of the 5-a-day programme to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Some of the fruit and vegetables include apples, pears, easy peel citrus, bananas, carrots, cocktail tomatoes, sugar snap peas, strawberries and mini cucumbers. From Year 3 to Year 6 we encourage our children to bring a healthy snack for morning break. This could be a cereal bar, fruit or vegetable.

Drinks

As part of promoting healthy lifestyles, our children only drink water and diluted squash when in school. They bring in bottles of water and can re-fill these throughout the day. Fizzy drinks and fruit juices are not appropriate. Milk is available from Nursery to Year 6 and is pre-ordered from the school for Infant and Nursery children.
